🌇 July 19, 2015: Homeless Ministry event – summer quarter. Ten members of Beit Shalom Balevav walked the downtown streets of Vancouver, Washington to hand out bags and kits of personal hygiene items for both men and women. About fifty kits were put together with much needed items, such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, cream, soap, shampoo, hand gel, wipes, tissues, sanitary napkins for the females, comes, brushes, socks, and much more. We handed out over $300 worth of stuff all due some very generous donations by the congregation and community.
From the Federal Courthouse on Franklin Street, we walked to Share House, near the railroad tracks at the west end of West 13th Street. There we met a heavy homeless population who gladly accepted the items. We had opportunities to meet, talk to, share stories, encourage, and even pray with several people needing hope and someone to talk to. One lady, Melody, cried while we prayed together for strength and faith. A couple from Alaska (Moon and Hope) were “walking their way back to Alaska” after seven years of not being “home.” Another man from Minnesota was busy sweeping clean the “area” (between the curb and a tall fence) that he was living in. He didn’t have much, but he wanted his living quarters to be neat and organized. The human heart longs for order and deeply desires a safe space that it can claim as a refuge. God’s presence was strongly felt touching these hearts and lives. Praise the name of Yeshua, the Prince of Peace. He is a great King and His Kingdom is a kingdom of order. What a priviledge to be called a child of the great King.
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exists, there is disorder and every evil thing. -James 3:16
